Ideal vs. Authentic Me

Ideal vs Authenticity Me

Who do you want to be? What do you strive for? How fare between lie the discrepancies between who you are and what you want?

These questions are often the source of disappointment. We don’t like who we are and think that attaining what we want will bring us happiness. Sometimes this is true and sometimes it is not.

It’s similar to the idea that lots of money will make you happy. In the beginning, yes it makes you happy, but soon afterwards you come back to your status quo. External factors do help us feel better. Getting that job or finding your mate are wonderful additions to your life that make you feel capable and loved. In turn, these feelings make you more confident and enjoy life.

Appearing as though you are happy does not lead towards attaining happiness. The only real way to be happy...is to be you.

But what does it mean to be you?

Being your authentic self means that you are confident in your own unique style. Whether you are someone who enjoys dancing in the rain or rewatching episodes of Friends. Whether you are passionate about a sports team or do math problems in your head. Be your wonderful weird self and do not make apologies for that.

Stop taking on the criticism of others. They don’t ultimately matter. The people around you should accept and support you. If someone makes you feel bad about yourself (a hater), stand up for yourself. You don’t have to be what others or even you expect for yourself. Go after your dreams and desires and you will find yourself along the way.
